Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum appeared in court today for a bail variation hearing, where he reported suffering from significant chest pain, pain in his right kidney, and kidney enlargement. He is scheduled for a heart and kidney review in Singapore.
During cross-examination by State Counsel Unaisi Ratukalou, Sayed-Khaiyum mentioned that he was originally slated for a medical review in March 2024, which was ultimately denied. He expressed that in the past week, he endured intense pain that restricted his ability to move comfortably for three days.
Sayed-Khaiyum has a history of heart bypass and kidney surgeries but continues to experience complications, including kidney enlargement and blockage, along with persistent chest and kidney pains. He indicated that since March, his condition has worsened.
The court has adjourned the matter until August 9 at noon for a ruling on the application.
