Former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was rushed to the hospital today after experiencing severe abdominal pain while in the Suva Magistrates Court. During a bail variation application hearing this afternoon, his lawyer, Davenesh Sharma, requested the Court to excuse his client so that Sayed-Khaiyum could receive medical attention.
Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza granted the request, allowing Sayed-Khaiyum’s aide and brother, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, to take him to the hospital. The Court briefly adjourned to allow Sharma to consult his client, who appeared to be in considerable distress throughout the session.
Sayed-Khaiyum was seen lying inside the accused box due to the extreme pain and looked pale and unsettled. He has also been excused from attending the Court tomorrow for the bail variation ruling.
