Fiji Airports has temporarily closed the Labasa airport after a small pothole was detected on the Waiqele Airport runway earlier today. The CEO of Fiji Airports, Mesake Nawari, stressed that passenger safety is the top priority and that a specialized team has been mobilized to address the issue quickly, aiming to minimize inconvenience for travelers.
“Upon identifying the problem, our team took immediate action to bring in specialists for urgent repairs,” Nawari stated. He mentioned that they expect the repairs to be finalized by this afternoon, allowing flights to resume as soon as inspections by the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) and FAL engineers confirm the runway’s safety.
Fiji Link confirmed the cancellation of seven flights to and from Labasa today due to the airport closure. The airline expressed its apologies for any disruptions caused and reassured passengers that services will resume promptly once the airport authorities complete repairs.
