Airplane Runway Scare: All Safe After Yasawa Incident

An aircraft incident involving a GA-8 Airvan with registration DQ-VAN took place on Saturday morning, December 21, 2024, at Yasawa Aerodrome. The aircraft, which had taken off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM, unfortunately overran the runway upon landing.

Fortunately, the aircraft sustained damage primarily to its nose wheel and propeller but managed to come to a stop just outside the runway strip. Importantly, the pilot and the six passengers onboard were unharmed, and no injuries were reported.

Operations at Yasawa Aerodrome remain unaffected, ensuring continuous support for aviation activities. In light of this incident, the Minister responsible for Tourism and Civil Aviation has announced the appointment of an investigator to carry out a thorough investigation. This inquiry will follow established procedures and international aviation standards, with the objective of implementing necessary measures to strengthen safety protocols.

The Ministry emphasized, “The safety and well-being of all passengers, crew, and stakeholders in Fiji’s aviation sector remain our top priority,” while expressing appreciation for the swift action taken by authorities and personnel at the scene.
