When Ailava Samuels encountered cyberbullying ahead of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant 2026, she refused to back down. Instead, she chose to harness her experience as Fiji’s Ambassador for Online Safety, transforming a painful ordeal into a powerful platform for advocacy.
“I know firsthand how damaging online attacks can be,” Samuels stated. “But I also recognize that we have the power to change the narrative around digital behavior in our Pacific communities.” This conviction drives her commitment to promoting online safety and digital responsibility, especially in light of her own experiences.
As an Ambassador for Fiji’s Online Safety Commission, Samuels understands the urgent need for change in how online interactions are handled, acknowledging the profound effects of harmful digital behavior. “Cyberbullying thrives in silence and anonymity,” she explains. “When we speak up and model respectful online engagement, we create safer digital spaces for everyone, particularly our youth.”
Being the eldest of seven children with strong Samoan ties, Samuels has always viewed leadership as synonymous with resilience. Her faith-centered approach to life has guided her through challenges, enabling her to focus on her mission of empowering Pacific communities to navigate digital platforms safely and respectfully.
Her diverse talents—from music and dance to public speaking and community service—exemplify her belief that true leadership is rooted in service. With every opportunity she embraces, including her role in the Miss Pacific Islands 2026 pageant, Samuels showcases the ability of young Pacific women to transform adversity into advocacy and personal struggle into a collective movement for progress.
“This experience hasn’t diminished my voice; it’s amplified my purpose,” she affirmed. “If sharing my story helps even one person stand against cyberbullying or reconsider posting hurtful comments, then it’s all worth it.”
Samuels’ journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the importance of resilience and advocacy in the face of negativity, bringing hope for a future where digital interactions are safer and more respectful for everyone.
