Ages Defy: Simione Tamanisau’s Surprising Comeback to Bula Boys Squad

Evergreen Labasa goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau has secured a spot in the 29-member extended squad of the Bula Boys for the upcoming matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Oceania Qualifiers. At 42, Tamanisau recently won the Golden Glove award in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), helping the Babasiga Lions clinch the title in Lautoka.

In addition to Tamanisau, in-form striker Christopher Wasasala and reliable defender Sekove Naivakananumi have also made the cut for the squad. Nadi goalkeeper Joela Biuvanua joins the team, taking the place of Rewa’s Isikeli Sevanaia, who has been excluded due to disciplinary matters.

The team is scheduled to commence training on Sunday, October 29, at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba.

Fiji’s squad includes: Joela Biuvanua, Simione Tamanisau, Jerome Narayan, Akuila Mateisuva, Filipe Baravilala, Sekove Naivakananumi, Samuela Kautoga, Scott Wara, Sterling Vasconcellos, Antonio Tuivuna, Gabriele Matanisiga, Josh Laqeretabua, Ivan Kumar, Kavaia Rawaqa, Setareki Hughes, Merrill Nand, Rahul Krishna, Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Mohammed Raheem, Tevita Waranaivalu, Dave Radrigai, Leroy Jennings, Aporosa Yada, Nabil Begg, Thomas Dunn, Roy Krishna, Sairusi Nalaubu, Etonia Dogalau, and Christopher Wasasala.
