Age is merely a number, a sentiment perfectly illustrated by seasoned bodybuilder Jale Colata Qasevakatini as he showcased his extraordinary skills at a recent International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) event at the Suva Civic Centre. At the age of 59, Qasevakatini secured three medals, including two golds for being the best entertainer in the region and for the most muscular pose, along with a silver in the masters category.
With over 25 years in the sport, Qasevakatini’s journey began at Chairman’s Gym in Suva. He now trains at the Metro Gym, where he passionately shares his knowledge with aspiring young bodybuilders. He emphasized the importance of encouraging youth participation in future IFBB events, as he noticed a concerning absence of younger competitors at the recent event.
Qasevakatini, together with other experienced bodybuilders, is committed to mentoring younger athletes to prepare them for upcoming local and regional competitions. His mission is to pave the way for these youngsters to grow within the bodybuilding community and potentially affiliate with the IFBB.
With the Mr & Ms Fiji competition on the horizon next month, he encouraged all competitors to maintain a positive mindset as they prepare, not only for this event but also for future competitions in New Zealand next year.
This inspiring story reflects the dedication and enthusiasm of a mentor who not only excels in his craft but also champions the next generation of bodybuilders. It highlights the positive impact that experienced athletes can have on the sport’s future, sparking hope and motivation among younger enthusiasts eager to make their mark.
Overall, this showcases a vibrant community committed to growth and perseverance, reminding us that passion and mentorship can bridge the gap across generations in any sport.
