At the age of 46, Ema Bi has set a remarkable example, demonstrating that perseverance and determination can overcome any barriers, regardless of age. The mother of two and dedicated nurse practitioner from Tuatua, Labasa, celebrated a significant milestone at the graduation ceremony of TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education, where she was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management.
Ms. Bi stood out among her peers, receiving six prestigious awards, including the Overall Academic Excellence award. Her hard work and commitment were recognized in several areas, particularly in Nursing Leadership in the 21st Century and Strategic Management in Nursing.
In her reflections on her journey, Ms. Bi spoke openly about the difficulties she encountered after losing her husband, Ashad Ali, who had been a strong supporter of her ambitions. “He always encouraged me to pursue whatever course I wanted and dreamed of seeing me graduate,” she recalled.
While juggling her postgraduate studies alongside a Master of Business Administration (MBA), she expressed heartfelt gratitude towards her mentor, Selina Waqa Ledua of the Fiji National Council, as well as her family and friends, for their unwavering encouragement.
“This is not the end of the road. With a positive mindset, anything is possible,” Ms. Bi affirmed, showcasing her resilience and determination. With 24 years of experience in her nursing career, she passionately describes her profession as an opportunity to create meaningful impacts in the lives of others.
Ms. Bi’s ultimate aspiration is to become a chief nurse, and she encourages individuals, especially mothers and widows, to dream without limitations. “Never give up. Age is just a number, and God has given us one life to live. Make it count,” she advises, serving as an inspiration to many.
