At 46 years old, Ema Bi has proven that determination knows no age limits. This inspiring mother of two, who is also a widow and a dedicated nurse practitioner from Tuatua, Labasa, stood out at the recent graduation ceremony of TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education. She proudly received a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management, shining with exceptional achievement.
During the ceremony, Ms. Bi was honored with six awards, the most prestigious being for Overall Academic Excellence. Her achievements also included excellence in key subjects like Nursing Leadership in the 21st Century and Strategic Management in Nursing.
In her reflections on her journey, Ms. Bi openly shared the challenges she has overcome, especially after the loss of her husband, Ashad Ali, who had always motivated her to pursue her dreams and wished to see her graduate. “He always encouraged me to pursue whatever course I wanted,” she stated.
While juggling her postgraduate studies, Ms. Bi is also working on a Master of Business Administration (MBA). She attributes her success to the encouragement of her mentor, Selina Waqa Ledua from the Fiji National Council, as well as her family and friends, whose support has been instrumental.
“I keep reminding myself that this is not the end of the road. With a positive mindset, anything is possible,” Ms. Bi expressed. With 24 years dedicated to nursing, she views it as a noble profession where she can truly make a difference in others’ lives.
Her aspirations extend toward becoming a chief nurse, and she passionately encourages others to dream without limits. “To mothers and widows, I say, never give up. Age is just a number, and God has given us one life to live. Make it count.”
