Transitioning from a science background to the fields of accounting and economics posed significant challenges for 21-year-old Sanskar Kapadia. Despite the obstacles, his unwavering determination led to a rewarding outcome when he, along with Kamal Prasad and Fatima Siddeqa, was honored with the Most Outstanding Accounting and Finance Student (Department) Award 2024 at the University of Fiji’s School of Business and Economics ceremony held in Lautoka last week.
Mr. Kapadia reflected on his journey, stating, “It wasn’t easy to shift to a completely new field, and I struggled with concepts I was unfamiliar with.” Through the encouragement of his lecturers and a strong commitment to consistent effort, he gradually developed the confidence needed to succeed. He also faced the challenge of balancing academic responsibilities while preparing for his future career.
“Managing deadlines, assignments, and preparing for the future wasn’t straightforward,” he explained, crediting his organizational skills and ability to prioritize as key factors that aided him, all while working part-time after classes. These experiences were crucial in teaching him resilience and adaptability.
Kamal Prasad shared her own experiences of overcoming hurdles during her studies, driven by motivation from her mother, who instilled in her the belief that success requires persistent effort. She encountered financial difficulties, especially with transportation, but emphasized her father’s unwavering support throughout her educational journey. With the help of her friend Ruqayyah Hakim, she was able to navigate academic challenges, showcasing her dedication.
Fatima Aiyesha Siddeqa, recognized as the dux of Nadi Muslim College in 2021, drew inspiration from the sacrifices made by her mother and grandmother. She stated, “I never wanted their efforts to go to waste,” emphasizing that her success is rooted in more than just personal accomplishment. As the eldest daughter, she feels a strong responsibility to make her family proud, viewing her success through the lens of leaving a meaningful legacy. Her aunt, who serves as both a significant role model and close friend, plays a crucial role in her journey.
