Esther Kuva’s accomplishment as the dux award recipient at Nakasi High School is a testament to her resilience and determination in the face of adversity. After losing her mother to bone cancer just before her Year 12 examinations, Esther turned her grief into motivation, striving to create a brighter future for herself and her siblings.
Reflecting on her journey, Kuva expressed profound gratitude to God for guiding her through the challenging times. “There have been a lot of obstacles but I’m thankful that I’m still standing here. I’m grateful and thankful to God; without Him, I wouldn’t be achieving this,” she remarked. Her testimony underscores the importance of faith during difficult moments in life.
Esther also acknowledged the incredible support from her family, particularly her aunt, uncle, and grandmother. Their assistance during her toughest times has been invaluable, helping her navigate her emotions and responsibilities as she continued her studies.
Her achievements at the school’s prize-giving ceremony were numerous, including awards for leadership and academics, such as the Year 13 distinction award and the best science student award. Surprisingly, she did not expect to receive so many accolades, saying, “When my name was called, I was shocked, but I guess it’s all in God’s plan.”
Balancing the demands of school and her responsibilities as head girl was no easy feat, but Esther attributed her success to hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. Looking ahead, she aims to pursue a career in medicine, considering options like a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or dentistry. Esther’s aspiration is to help others, embodying the hope and resilience that many can learn from.
This inspiring story serves as a beacon of hope, illustrating that with courage, support, and determination, overcoming personal tragedies is possible. Esther Kuva’s journey not only honors her late mother’s memory but also showcases the promising future that lies ahead for her.
