Ema Bi, a 46-year-old mother of two and dedicated nurse practitioner from Tuatua, Labasa, has made remarkable achievements in her career, proving that determination has no age limit. At the recent graduation ceremony for the TISI Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education, Ms. Bi not only earned her Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management but also stood out as a star student, receiving six prestigious awards, including Overall Academic Excellence.

Her accolades highlighted her proficiency in key subjects, such as Nursing Leadership in the 21st Century and Strategic Management in Nursing. In a heartfelt reflection on her journey, Ms. Bi spoke candidly about the challenges she faced after the death of her husband, Ashad Ali, who had always encouraged her to pursue her dreams and had been eager to see her graduate.

Currently working at the Labasa Health Centre, Ms. Bi balanced her postgraduate studies alongside a Master of Business Administration (MBA). She credits her mentor, Selina Waqa Ledua from the Fiji National Council, along with family and friends, for their steadfast support throughout her academic journey.

Ms. Bi emphasizes a positive outlook, stating, “I keep reminding myself that this is not the end of the road. With a positive mindset, anything is possible.” After 24 years in nursing, she describes the profession as one that allows her to make a significant impact on the lives of others. Her ultimate ambition is to become a chief nurse, and she encourages others, especially mothers and widows, to pursue their dreams without hesitation. “Age is just a number, and God has given us one life to live. Make it count,” she advises.
