Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has epitomized resilience and determination on her path to success. The 26-year-old recently graduated with a degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the School of Business and Economics at the University of Fiji.
Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga with family roots in Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana now oversees Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. After finishing high school, she spent seven years working at Jacks of Fiji before deciding to pursue higher education, spurred on by the memory of her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo.
“She was my inspiration. I wish she could be here to celebrate my achievement,” Ms. Leana reflected.
Juggling work, studies, and family obligations posed significant challenges, but Ms. Leana kept her focus. “I opted out of social events and church services to concentrate on my assignments and studies. I would catch up on sermons later through the radio. My main goal was to complete my degree,” she explained.
The journey was mentally demanding, filled with countless sleepless nights dedicated to assignments and presentations, yet she persevered. “It required a lot of hard work to balance everything. Although it was tough, ultimately, it was all worth it,” she remarked.
Expressing her gratitude, Ms. Leana dedicated her success to her late sister, as well as her parents and siblings, who unwaveringly supported her throughout her educational journey. Her mother, Makereta Tupou, expressed her pride during the graduation ceremony, saying, “I cried as I watched her walk across the stage to receive her diploma. It was a moment filled with pride. We faced numerous challenges, but with God’s strength, we overcame them.”
