Against All Odds: Ba High School’s U16 Team Battles with Improvised Training

The under-16 team from Ba Methodist High School utilized old tires and ropes for their training in preparation for the Vodafone Super Deans held last Saturday. Despite facing a tough loss against Ratu Kadavulevu School with a score of 8-30, the team viewed the match as a valuable learning opportunity.

Assistant coach Paula Rokotuiloma expressed pride in the boys for reaching the cup quarter-finals. He emphasized, “It’s a learning opportunity for us, and we will come back stronger next year.” Rokotuiloma acknowledged the numerous challenges faced by the team but noted that the players maintained their commitment and resilience throughout.

Due to limited resources, the team had to be creative with their training methods, incorporating local materials like ropes and tires to prepare. With only one hour of training each afternoon, the players also engaged in road runs.

Looking forward, Rokotuiloma conveyed optimism about next year’s competition. He reflected on their journey this year, highlighting their success in beating Natabua in the zone semi-finals and finishing second against Ba Provincial High School. This season marked a significant milestone for the school, as it was the first time an under-16 team reached the national quarter-finals, thanks to the hard work of the boys and the support from parents and guardians.
