Yolanda Krystel Goundar, 35, recently received a Trophy of Excellence for her Post-Graduate Diploma in Midwifery, embodying the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” She was among 35 students honored with this significant accolade.

Managing her studies alongside the responsibilities of motherhood posed its challenges, but the unwavering support from her family proved invaluable in navigating this journey. Ms. Goundar expressed heartfelt gratitude for the encouragement she received, particularly from her close friends, during some challenging times.

She acknowledged her mother and siblings for their essential assistance with her children, especially during critical study and exam periods. Driven by her passion for newborn care, she noted that her experiences collaborating with skilled nurses and doctors significantly enhanced her understanding of midwifery. “I learned the importance of caring not just for the babies, but also for the mothers. That’s what kept me motivated to continue my studies,” she shared.

Currently, Ms. Goundar is a registered nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. She emphasized the importance of faith, stating, “Trust God and never lose faith in him.”

This inspiring story underscores the power of resilience and support in achieving one’s goals, highlighting that with determination and communal encouragement, one can overcome obstacles and succeed in their endeavors. Ms. Goundar’s journey serves as a hopeful reminder for many that challenges can be met with strength and faith.
