St. John Primary School in Wailoku has reinstated its inter-house athletics event after a 14-year hiatus, much to the delight of students, parents, and staff. This eagerly awaited event saw nearly 300 students from both primary and kindergarten levels take part with great enthusiasm.
Joseva Vere, the school’s head, highlighted the importance of reviving this competition, noting that it had been absent for over a decade. He explained, “The inter-house competition for this school was lapsing for about 14 years. It just came last year when we talked with the staff and decided to restart it because this is something the students have been missing. Many of these students are participating for the first time.”
Vere underscored the school’s commitment to nurturing student talents, many of which may have remained unnoticed due to the lack of the inter-house event in recent years. He stated, “Who knows, we might have some children who are very good at athletics, but we are not exposing them. That is why we are here today.”
This year, the school is concentrating on its own activities and has opted out of zonal competitions. However, Vere mentioned that the possibility of joining zonal events in the future remains open.
