The Aflame Brothers under-21 rugby team is focusing on enhancing their defensive techniques and set pieces as they prepare for the Fiji Bitter Tabadamu 7s competition starting tomorrow at Thomson Park in Navua. Their spirits are high following a recent victory at the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s, where they secured a 14-5 win against the Village Boys in the under-21 final, which has significantly boosted their confidence.
Team manager Emmanuel Fumanu acknowledged the challenges posed by injuries but reassured that preparations are proceeding smoothly. “We still have areas to improve on, particularly our defence and set pieces. We are working on getting the combinations right with the new players coming in to cover for the injured ones,” Fumanu stated. The overarching goal is to build on their previous tournament’s performance and achieve consistency throughout the series.
The Aflame Brothers are also seeking to defend their titles at the upcoming Nawaka 7s for the third consecutive year and the Marist 7s as well. Fumanu expressed, “With the Fiji Bitter series nearing its conclusion, our main objective is to finish strong and retain our titles at both Nawaka and Marist.”
Fans are encouraged to support both the under-21 and men’s teams, as the tournament will feature 32 men’s teams, 16 under-21 teams, and five women’s teams participating. The event, which runs from tomorrow through Saturday, provides an exciting platform for the teams to showcase their skills and determination on the field.
Overall, the Fiji Bitter Tabadamu 7s shines as a vibrant celebration of rugby culture, inspiring local communities and nurturing emerging talents. The event is set to foster both competitive spirit and unity among players and supporters alike, highlighting the strong community engagement intrinsic to Fiji’s rugby tradition.
