The Axellerate Aflame Brothers are set to defend their title at the 49th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, which kicks off today at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. After clinching last year’s championship with a decisive 12-0 win over the Tubarua Highlanders, the team is determined to show their best performance once again on this grand stage.
Team manager Emmanuel Fumanu expressed pride in the team’s preparation, especially after their challenging outing at the Nawaka 7s last weekend. “Preparations went well throughout the week. We are so excited to participate in the final leg of the Fiji Bitter series and are looking forward to another great weekend of rugby,” Fumanu remarked.
The tournament promises fierce competition, with Fumanu noting the importance of focus and dedication, given the challenging pool draws that feature several strong teams. He reassured supporters that despite minor injuries affecting the team, younger players are primed to step in and make significant contributions.
Additionally, Fumanu extended an invitation to rugby fans across Fiji to come out and support the Aflame Brothers as they vie for yet another title at the Marist 7s. In a related moment of pride for the team, he congratulated Sikeli Basiyalo Jnr on his selection for the Fiji 7s team to compete in Hong Kong.
The tournament features a vibrant collection of teams and showcases Fiji’s rich rugby culture, solidifying its importance as a platform for emerging talents and community engagement through sports. As fans gather to witness the action, the anticipation builds for exciting matches that promise to deliver memorable moments and foster unity within the rugby community.
This highlights a hopeful outlook for the growth of rugby in Fiji, inspiring future generations while bringing communities together in celebration of the sport.
