The Fiji Tribe team from the Australia Football League (AFL) is gearing up for the Pacific Cup, set to take place in Brisbane, Australia, from November 14 to 24. Head coach Alipate Navuso shared this exciting news during a recent event where the team received their training kits from sponsors.

Navuso emphasized that the team has been diligently preparing for the tournament over the past seven weeks, with daily training sessions (except for Sundays). He highlighted the blend of experience and fresh talent within the squad, noting that eight players have previously represented Fiji in the World Cups held in 2011, 2014, and 2017. Additionally, nine players have progressed through AFL Fiji’s youth development programs and will make their debut in the senior team.

The coach pointed out that the team faced challenges in securing sponsorships, explaining that AFL is often viewed as a niche sport in Fiji. He extended his gratitude to their sponsor, Flame Tree, for their support. Navuso expressed confidence in the team’s skill set, combining the expertise of seasoned players and the determination of newcomers.

The focus of the training has been on fundamental AFL skills and ensuring the players are fit and ready for their upcoming challenges. Navuso described the eleven new players as underdogs eager to prove their abilities on the field. He praised their unwavering commitment, citing no absences during training.

Navuso also acknowledged the substantial support from players’ families and sponsors, mentioning that team members have personally covered expenses for training logistics, including travel and accommodation.

This showcase of teamwork and dedication underscores the Fiji Tribe’s commitment to representing their nation proudly at the Pacific Cup. The team’s journey is a testament to resilience and passion for the sport, promising an exciting experience for both players and supporters as they look forward to their upcoming matches.

Overall, this is a hopeful story of commitment and preparation, highlighting both the challenges faced by the team and their unwavering spirit as they pursue their dreams on the field. The Fiji Tribe’s efforts remind us of the importance of perseverance and community support in achieving success.
