The Public Rental Board (PRB) is preparing to lead the construction of a significant new project at the Jittu Estate, a move aimed at providing additional affordable housing for families in need. The board has issued a call for reputable construction companies to submit applications to undertake this initiative.
According to the details released in the tender advertisement, the development will encompass two four-story buildings located at lot 1, Jittu Road, accommodating a total of 16 flats. This project is expected to be beneficial for low-income families, particularly those residing in the informal Raiwaqa settlement, pointing towards a more optimistic outlook for the beginning of the year.
This initiative aligns with previous developments, such as the Lagilagi Housing Project, which earlier this year saw 36 families receive keys to their newly constructed homes. The project, which is nearing completion, has been a notable commitment from the government, with investment figures around $16 million aimed at providing sustainable solutions for low-income earners. The Lagilagi estate, home to over 400 individuals, emphasizes the government’s focus on enhancing living conditions for vulnerable communities.
Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, has highlighted the importance of prioritizing local residents for housing opportunities. He acknowledged previous challenges related to space limitations and management but reassured that steps are being taken to resolve these issues to further augment housing solutions in the area.
The concerted efforts in housing development at Jittu Estate reflect a promising step towards addressing the pressing demand for affordable housing, targeting families in informal settlements. These positive initiatives illustrate a dedicated approach to fostering community stability and wellbeing, paving the way for a brighter future for families residing in the region.
