Aerosmith Cancels Farewell Tour: What Happened to Steven Tyler’s Voice?

Massachusetts rock band Aerosmith has announced their retirement from touring, citing lead singer Steven Tyler’s vocal injury as the reason for canceling their farewell tour.

In a social media statement, the band said, “We’ve always wanted to amaze you during our performances. As you know, Steven’s voice is unique. He has spent months working hard to restore his voice after the injury. Despite the best medical care, it is clear that a full recovery is not possible. We have made the heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision as a band of brothers to retire from touring.”

Tyler sustained the vocal injury during a concert last September and initially stated he would be unable to sing for 30 days.

However, Aerosmith later announced that the tour would be indefinitely postponed because the injury was “more serious than initially thought.”

The band was set to resume their farewell tour on Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh, with further stops planned in Philadelphia, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, and New York.

They also had a “hometown show” scheduled for last New Year’s Eve at Boston’s TD Garden, which was canceled due to Tyler’s injury.

In their statement, Aerosmith expressed gratitude, saying, “We are beyond grateful for everyone excited to join us on the road one last time. Thanks to our expert crew, incredible team, and the thousands of talented people who have made our historic tours possible. A final thank you to you, the best fans on Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
