The rock band Aerosmith from Massachusetts has officially announced their retirement from touring and the cancellation of their farewell tour, following lead singer Steven Tyler’s vocal injury.
In a statement shared on social media, the band expressed their sentiments, saying, “We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice back to its previous state. We have witnessed him struggling despite having the best medical team. Unfortunately, it has become clear that a complete recovery from his vocal injury is not achievable. As a band of brothers, we made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision to retire from the touring stage.”
Tyler incurred the vocal injury during a concert last September and initially announced that he would be unable to sing for the following 30 days. However, the band later revealed that the injury was “more serious than initially thought,” leading to the postponement of the tour.
The farewell tour was originally set to continue on September 20 in Pittsburgh, with stops planned in cities such as Philadelphia, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, and New York. Additionally, they had intended to hold a “hometown show” on New Year’s Eve at Boston’s TD Garden, which was also canceled due to Tyler’s injury.
In closing their statement, the band conveyed their gratitude, saying, “We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was excited to hit the road with us one last time. We thank our expert crew, our amazing team, and the many talented individuals who made our historic tours possible. A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
