Adi Asenaca Nava, a contestant for the Ms Vodafone Sugar title, is utilizing the Vodafone Sugar Festival to promote the significance of maintaining a positive mindset. Originating from Namoli Village, Adi Asenaca has connections to Navisabasaba in Nadroga and is passionate about inspiring young people to focus less on negativity.
“I’ll try to connect with young people on how important it is to train your mindset not to be influenced or focused on negativity,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to fostering a positive outlook. Her family includes ties to the Turaga Na Taukei Vidilo in Namoli, and she aims to highlight her cultural heritage throughout the festival.
Expressing her aspirations, Adi Asenaca remarked, “I come from a chiefly family, so I’d like to advocate that as well,” noting some initial hesitance from her conservative family members regarding her participation in the festival. “The responsibility, especially being the eldest daughter, there are so many expectations. I had to pray for them, and then at the last minute they agreed,” she added.
Youth engagement was a central theme at the Vodafone Sugar Festival, which has also seen other contestants like Adi Bose Vakaturaga advocate for health awareness related to non-communicable diseases. Such initiatives showcase the growing trend among young contestants to leverage the festival platform not just for titles, but to address vital societal issues such as health and positivity.
As the festival unfolds, Adi Asenaca’s advocacy highlights not only the cultural aspects of the event but also the importance of nurturing a mindset that discourages negativity—an admirable pursuit as she competes for the crown but also seeks to make a meaningful impact in her community.
