The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has designated $300,000 for the preliminary phases of a masterplan aimed at tourism development in Nasaulevu, Nadi, as part of the Nakovacake Development Trust initiative. This announcement was made by Cathy Marsh, deputy director general of the Private Sector Operations Department at ADB.
“We fully understand that tourism is a key pillar for Fiji and its economy,” Marsh stated. She explained that through the memorandum of understanding (MOU), the ADB will collaborate with local stakeholders to create a masterplan for the responsible development of Nasaulevu.
“This masterplan will embody our shared vision for Nasaulevu as a prestigious, environmentally sustainable, and socially integrated destination, appealing to future generations of travelers for the next 50 years and beyond,” she added.
Marsh also mentioned that the ADB has approved funding to engage top experts from Fiji and around the world to assist in this developmental planning.
“This means we are prepared to not only sign the MOU today but also to put it into action immediately. We hope to commence this project before the end of the year,” she noted. “We have an initial budget of up to $300,000 for this endeavor.”
