Dr. Keith Kendall, the chairperson of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB), will be visiting Fiji next week to host educational seminars aimed at key stakeholders within the accounting profession. These sessions are particularly timely as they will address the significant changes in sustainability reporting and the critical issues facing professionals in the region.

The Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) has outlined that the seminars will cover a range of topics, including sustainability reporting, digital transformation, technical research initiatives, not-for-profit reporting, and Australia’s role in international engagement with accounting standards. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to keep accounting professionals informed about the latest trends and regulatory changes, assisting them in enhancing their technical skills and improving reporting standards within their firms.

FICA emphasized the importance of these seminars, stating, “These sessions will help participants stay updated on the latest trends and developments, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to navigate the changing regulatory environment.”

Dr. Kendall brings a wealth of expertise to these discussions, particularly in applying behavioral law and economics to regulatory practices, which enriches his insights into accounting standards. He is actively involved in various esteemed organizations, including the Australian Financial Reporting Council and the New Zealand Accounting Standards Board, and holds several qualifications from prestigious universities, highlighting his extensive background in the field.

The seminars are set to occur on February 12 from 9 am to 11 am at the USP SAFE PG lecture theatre in Suva, and on February 13 from 2:30 pm to 4 pm at the FNU Namaka Campus in Nadi.

In a broader context, this initiative underscores the growing recognition of the importance of sustainability in accounting practices, emphasizing that professionals need to adapt to remain relevant in a rapidly changing landscape. Ultimately, these seminars represent a proactive approach to equipping stakeholders with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of modern accounting and reporting standards, fostering a sustainable future in the region.
