The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji (ACCF) is focusing on enhancing staff capabilities and improving operations through strategic international partnerships. The Permanent Secretary for Employment, Maritino Nemani, emphasized the significance of learning from counterparts in Australia and New Zealand to align the commission’s systems with global best practices and improve internal capacity. This initiative comes after a review identified a need for enhanced staff skills. Nemani, who has extensive experience living in Australia and New Zealand, is familiar with these international models and supports adopting similar approaches.

The ACCF is exploring future partnerships to adopt updated compensation methods akin to those of international bodies. Efforts are ongoing to build capacity within the organization, ensuring that staff development remains a priority. Collaborating with international partners is viewed as crucial for delivering improved compensation services.

This effort is part of broader changes within ACCF, including transferring employment-related claims to the Ministry of Employment to streamline processes and focus more on motor vehicle accidents. Since the inception of the ACCF, over $82 million in compensations have been disbursed across multiple sectors, with significant operational changes to enhance efficiency.

Overall, the focus on international collaboration and staff development highlights a proactive strategy aimed at refining the ACCF’s processes and delivering better support to individuals affected by accidents. This strategy not only ensures more effective compensation frameworks but also promotes a forward-looking approach to public service in Fiji. By enhancing capabilities and leveraging international standards, the ACCF is taking meaningful steps towards improved service delivery and operational excellence.
