Forty villagers from Naiserelagi and 43 residents from the Ra Provincial Compound will soon have uninterrupted access to water following the inauguration of new groundwater systems. The projects were officially launched by the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo, who emphasized that proper management and maintenance of these systems will be crucial for their longevity.

During the commissioning ceremony, Vosarogo reiterated the coalition government’s dedication to ensuring equitable access to crucial resources for rural and maritime communities. This initiative is part of the Rural WASH Programme, aimed at improving water supply in less accessible areas.

The benefits of the new systems will extend beyond mere convenience. Vosarogo pointed out that improved access to water will enhance hygiene and sanitation, thus helping to reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases and healthcare costs. This, in turn, is expected to bolster local economic activities, including agriculture and small businesses, as communities will have reliable water sources to support their livelihoods.

This development aligns with other government efforts to improve water access across Fiji, such as recent commitments made by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to connect families in communities with safe drinking water. Such measures reflect a proactive approach to public health and welfare, with investments aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents throughout the country.

As communities benefit from these water initiatives, it offers hope for a future where all Fijians have access to safe, clean water, contributing to overall wellbeing and sustainable development.
