The arrival of Goundar Shipping Limited’s MV Captain Inoke brought immense joy and emotional significance to families in Koro, Levuka, particularly for the Ratotodro family. This particular vessel holds a special place in their heart as it was named in memory of Captain Inoke Ratotodro, who served with Goundar Shipping for 30 years before his passing last October.

Melaia Ratotodro, the deceased’s eldest daughter, expressed her emotions as the ship docked, reflecting on her father’s hard work and dedication. She conveyed her gratitude towards Goundar Shipping for honoring her father’s legacy with this tribute. Melaia shared, “We may miss him dearly, but what we are grateful for is what the company has done.”

George Goundar, managing director of Goundar Shipping, reminisced about Captain Inoke’s vital role in the establishment and growth of the company, emphasizing the close friendship they shared. He highlighted how Captain Inoke’s expertise was instrumental in navigating the complexities of the maritime industry during the early days of the company.

The MV Captain Inoke is now captained by Sainimere Qutonilaba, who has demonstrated remarkable growth since starting as a cadet in 2011. Under her captaincy, Goundar Shipping has continually expanded its fleet, further enhancing its presence in maritime travel.

A traditional ceremony marked the occasion, allowing attendees to pay their respects and usher in the ship’s significance before exploring its interior. This heartfelt event not only honors a beloved figure but also showcases the strong community ties and heritage within the region.

This story reflects the profound impact that individuals can have on their communities and the lasting legacies they leave behind. The Ratotodro family’s celebration underscores the bond of family and friendship, showing that even in loss, there can be joy and remembrance within communities.
