Residents of the Nabua Muslim League settlement in Suva are facing a challenging holiday season this year. Turaga ni koro (village headman) Karalo Naituki expressed his sadness about the upcoming Christmas, stating that his community has been given just 30 days to vacate their homes, with the deadline set for December 28.

Mr. Naituki, who has lived in the settlement for 34 years, shared that the residents have nowhere to go, making their situation even more difficult. He mentioned the emotional toll it has taken on them as they contemplate the potential loss of their homes. Many residents, like Naituki, are concerned about the financial burden of dismantling and rebuilding homes, which they cannot afford.

In an attempt to seek assistance, Mr. Naituki delivered a letter to the Prime Minister detailing their plight and requesting support for relocation. Similarly, Anita Kumar, a long-time resident of 40 years, echoed these sentiments, expressing that the situation has stripped away the joy typically associated with the festive season.

This situation serves as a reminder of the struggles faced by communities who are often overlooked in times of need. It highlights the importance of government support in helping vulnerable populations during times of displacement. While this Christmas may seem bleak for the residents of Nabua, there is hope that their pleas will be heard and that they will receive the assistance they desperately need.

In summary, the residents of the Nabua settlement are facing uncertainty and sadness this Christmas due to an eviction notice, sparking calls for government assistance to help with their relocation.
