Asenaca Raloka has spent eight years of her career teaching boys in an all-male school setting, specifically at Ratu Kadavulevu School. “Teaching in an all-boys school comes with its unique challenges,” she acknowledges. Asenaca views her mission as extending beyond mere academic teaching; she also takes on a motherly role, helping her students navigate their studies and personal development.
“One of my fundamental beliefs is in the significance of instilling basic table manners and promoting healthy living habits, both at school and home,” she explains. These practices are viewed as core elements in teaching respect and personal hygiene, contributing to a well-rounded education that equips students for life beyond the classroom.
In addition to her professional duties, Asenaca is a mother of two and lives with her family on the school premises. This arrangement allows her to stay closely engaged with both her work and home life. “As a full-time teacher, I make sure my household is well-managed. Living on school grounds has its advantages,” she states.
Her weekly shopping routine is conducted with practicality in mind, typically costing between $200 and $250 for essentials such as cereals, milk, eggs, flour, rice, sugar, tea, baking items, and toiletries. Asenaca favors the supermarket in Korovou Town that offers the best deals and also makes time to visit the market for fresh produce from local farmers and vendors. “These basics are essential to my family’s daily diet, providing necessary nutrition,” she shares.
She emphasizes the importance of shopping mindfully, noting that many people from nearby villages may rush their shopping trips due to transportation constraints. “We must be cautious about what we purchase. Rush-shopping is not something to encourage,” Asenaca says, advocating for a thoughtful approach to shopping that helps customers make wise budgeting decisions without distractions.
Her dedication to her family and her students showcases the blend of her personal and professional responsibilities. Asenaca encourages shoppers to take their time in the supermarket, as doing so allows for careful selection of products and minimizes disappointment.
