A Rising Star: Jordan Miller’s Journey from Schoolboy to Fiji Bati Debut

Nineteen-year-old Jordan Miller’s journey has taken an exciting turn as he returns to Fiji with the Vodafone Fiji Bati team, two years after his initial visit with the Australian schoolboys in 2022. This milestone marks a significant highlight in his rugby league career.

Miller, a towering prop from Australia with roots in Savusavu through his father, expressed his enthusiasm for training alongside senior players and NRL stars he admired while growing up. Among the notable names he mentioned are Tui Kamikamica from the Storm, Maika Sivo, and Viliame Kikau.

He expressed his gratitude to coach Waisake Kativerata for the opportunity to make his debut with the Bati, although he started from the bench. “I’ve always wanted to play for Fiji,” he shared, noting the surreal experience of being in camp with established players.

“It’s pretty crazy that I’m training with them. I didn’t think it would come this early, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to come here. It means a lot,” he added.

Miller has been absorbing lessons from the team’s culture during the camp, highlighting their energetic environment and spiritual devotion, which occurs twice daily. “Everything’s good – we have devotion twice a day. There’s a lot of energy, so the camp’s never down; it’s a fun camp to be in,” he explained.

Earlier this year, Miller signed a three-year contract with the Tigers and made his NRL debut in Round 15 against the Titans, where the Tigers secured an 18-10 victory. Last September, he was recognized as the player’s player and was named best and fairest at the Wests Magpies Harold Matthews Cup U17s during their Junior Representative Award night.
