Nearly half a century after captivating audiences at the Golden Dragon nightclub in Suva, the Dragon Swingers are set to transport music lovers back in time with a special revival show in Vancouver, Canada. This nostalgic event, aptly named “A Night In Vancouver,” takes place on Saturday, September 20, at the prestigious Royal Palace Hall in Burnaby, BC.
Led by Ken Janson, a luminary in the Fijian music scene, the Dragon Swingers will perform alongside a stellar lineup of legendary Fijian musicians. rejoining Fijian musical greats like jazz virtuoso Tom Mawi, rock and roller Nesbitt Hazelman, and the prolific guitarist Kuki Nayacakalou who has built a notable career in Australia. Also featured is Victor Rounds, a renowned bassist now based in Sydney whose musical journey includes collaborations with international superstars such as Prince, and Paul McCartney, among others. On keyboards, Henry Foon, a founder of the celebrated Fijian group Kabani, and Waisiliva Baledrokadroka, a versatile vocalist from Fiji, will enrich the classic repertoire.
Reflecting the spirit of the Golden Dragon days, the show promises to recreate the magic with performances of timeless hits across rock and roll, soul, R&B, disco, and classics. Janson reminisced about the Golden Dragon being the prime venue for Fiji’s best musicians, including noted personalities like Wise Vatuwaqa, Paul Steven, Marika Gata, and the legendary Sakusa Bulicokocoko.
Joining this iconic gathering is guitarist Patrick Chung, who made a mark in the vibrant music scene of Suva in the ’70s.
