The Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, has today reaffirmed her support for the newly appointed Lau paramount chief, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, during the opening of the Lau Provincial Council meeting held in Tubou, Lakeba. Ro Teimumu emphasized the necessity of a strong leader in guiding the community towards progress, particularly in a province that has been without its paramount chief for over two decades.

She urged the Masi ni Vanua, or district leaders within Lau, to take on their roles seriously and rally behind Ratu Tevita’s vision for the province, reiterating that unity and collaborative efforts are critical for the prosperity of Lau. Her remarks echoed sentiments previously expressed by Ratu Tevita himself, who upon his installation highlighted the importance of leadership as a collective endeavor that nurtures cultural identity and community resilience.

Ro Teimumu thanked the people of Lau for their dedication over the past few days, which culminated in the installation ceremony that drew attention not only from local communities but also from dignitaries across the Pacific, including the King and Queen of Tonga. This extensive support showcases the profound respect and admiration for Lau’s rich traditions and culture, reinforcing the ties between Pacific nations.

The Lau community will continue its celebrations with the Solevu feast set to take place tomorrow, marking both the successful installation of the Tui Lau and the collective aspirations for renewed leadership that revitalizes cultural pride and unity among the people of Lau. This celebration embodies a hopeful chapter for the community and signifies a shared commitment to overcoming contemporary challenges together.

The spirit of cooperation and respect displayed during these events indicates a bright future for the Lau Province, as they actively honor their heritage while looking forward to a revitalized identity under Ratu Tevita’s leadership.
