Members of Parliament and the Parliament secretariat gathered yesterday to bid farewell to the Speaker of Parliament and President-elect, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. In his farewell address, Ratu Naiqama emphasized the importance of continuity in public service, saying, “I will be going across to the other side of the ground just to continue the work there. I’m not there to finish it, I’m just there to continue the work.” This statement underlines his commitment to the ongoing projects and initiatives begun during his time as Speaker.
Opposition Member Viliame Naupoto spoke on behalf of the Members and Parliament staff, expressing heartfelt appreciation for Ratu Naiqama’s dedication and leadership. “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your wisdom, sound leadership, guidance, and kind heart for leading the Parliament of Fiji over the past two years,” he stated in Fijian.
Ratu Naiqama is set to take the Oath of Office as the President of Fiji on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 am at the State House, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his public service career.
