The newly opened Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, valued at $26,000, is set to become a vital center for early childhood education and play for children from Kavanagasau and nearby areas. The facility was established thanks to a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies and was officially inaugurated earlier this month.
Situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town, the kindergarten will enhance the educational offerings of the school, which includes primary education from Years One to Eight and college from Years Nine to Thirteen. Head of the school, Jitendra Kumar, warmly welcomed attendees and expressed deep appreciation for the Tappoo Group’s contribution. He noted the significant impact the play center would have on nurturing the next generation, stressing that education transcends traditional classroom settings and should inspire creativity and exploration.
“The launch of this Early Childhood Education (ECE) play center marks a significant advancement in providing quality education within the Nadroga Navosa education district,” Mr. Kumar stated.
This modern facility is dedicated to the late Tappoo Kanji, an early student of the school and a key figure in the Tappoo family legacy. Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared an emotional story about his family’s long-standing connection with the school, which began with his father’s enrollment in 1933.
“This play center is more than a donation; it symbolizes our family’s bond with this community and highlights the importance of early education,” Mr. Tappoo remarked. The Tappoo Group’s commitment to the school goes beyond this project, as they previously donated $12,500 worth of Information Technology (IT) equipment to aid in developing the school’s computer lab.
This year, their focus has been on improving the learning conditions for the youngest students, demonstrating a continued commitment to supporting the rural school. Nadroga Navosa Education Officer Janice Nath echoed similar sentiments, commending the Tappoo Group for their shared vision in fostering lifelong learners.
“The play center will not only benefit Kavanagasau’s children but will also reflect the Ministry of Education’s dedication to promoting innovation and quality education,” Ms. Nath stated. She added that early childhood education is essential for future academic success, and this facility will create a nurturing and conducive environment for young learners.
The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE play center is expected to significantly impact its students, providing an environment for social, emotional, and physical development. With strong backing from the Tappoo Group, school management, and the Ministry of Education, this play center will become a central part of community education.
The inauguration concluded with the unveiling of a plaque, symbolizing the collaborative efforts toward this achievement and the community’s commitment to giving children a solid educational foundation.
In further achievements, the Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharam Primary School celebrated a second consecutive year of 100 percent pass rates in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination. Mr. Kumar credited this success to the hard work of both teachers and parents. Top student Lice Vuliasi from the Kavanagasau settlement received the highest marks and emphasized the importance of parental support in their ongoing efforts for excellence. Mr. Kumar stated that they have assessed weaknesses from the previous year and are committed to achieving high marks again this year.
