Members of Parliament and the Parliament secretariat gathered to bid farewell to the outgoing Speaker of Parliament and President-elect, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, recognizing his contributions during his tenure. The farewell took place in Parliament yesterday, marking a significant moment as Ratu Naiqama prepares to take on his new responsibilities as Head of State.
In his closing remarks, Ratu Naiqama emphasized the importance of continuity in public service. He stated, “I will be going across to the other side of the ground just to continue the work there. I’m not there to finish it, I’m just there to continue the work.” This reflects his commitment to serving the nation in a different capacity while ensuring that the work initiated in Parliament continues.
Opposition Member Viliame Naupoto conveyed the appreciation of all Members and staff of Parliament for Ratu Naiqama’s leadership and dedication throughout his term. He expressed heartfelt gratitude by saying, “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your wisdom, sound leadership, guidance, and kind heart for leading the Parliament of Fiji over the past two years.”
Ratu Naiqama is set to officially take the Oath of Office as the President of Fiji at the State House on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 am, a transition that promises to bring new possibilities for the nation.
