2025 is set to be a significant year for women’s cricket in Fiji. The country will not only take part in the inaugural Four Nations tournament in New Caledonia but will also host the ICC T20 East Asia Pacific qualifier for the very first time. Sitiveni Rokoro, the chief executive officer of Cricket Fiji, announced that seven teams will compete in the qualifier, including Japan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Samoa, Cook Islands, and Fiji itself.

The winner of this tournament will earn a coveted spot in the Women’s World Cup scheduled for 2026. Following the conclusion of the Suva T20 League, a national squad will be selected to represent Fiji in the Four Nations tournament, which is organized by Cricket France and will take place in March.

In addition to these upcoming events, Fiji will host a secondary school under-19 tournament in January. The training squad for the under-19 boys has already been established, preparing to compete in the division U19 World Cup qualifiers in Japan in April.

Rokoro noted a robust interest among cricket associations for the annual Easter senior men’s tournament, with each association eager to send two teams. The top eight teams from the Easter tournament will then advance to a super eight competition later in the year, with dates still to be confirmed. Moreover, the Fiji Secondary Schools U19 girls and boys tournament is set to occur following its successful revival this year.

This focus on women’s cricket and youth development reflects a positive trend in promoting the sport within the region, showcasing the growing opportunities for female athletes and the next generation of cricketers in Fiji.
