Former Nasinu player and national football representative Ronald Ram fondly recalls his participation in the 1997 Fiji FACT, reflecting on the evolution of the tournament since then. Now in his 40s, Ram’s journey in soccer began at DAV Boys’ College in Suva, where his passion for the sport ignited.
Ram remembers the rigorous training and limited resources faced during the 1997 competition. The camaraderie built among teammates played a crucial role in their success. “Growing up, it was always my passion for the sport that I can share with everyone today,” he stated, noting the significant changes he has witnessed over the years in the Fiji FACT, particularly in terms of the speed and style of play, as well as improved coaching education.
Over the years, Ram transitioned from being a player to taking on roles focused on developing the sport in Fiji, including serving as a development officer with the Fiji Football Association. In 2025, he will participate in the RC Manubhai/APCO Coatings International Veterans Tournament, celebrating not only his playing days but also continuing to support the sport he loves.
This upcoming tournament, featuring 16 teams across two divisions, reflects the ongoing dedication to fostering community and athletic spirit within Fijian football. The event will bring together players from different eras, showcasing the legacy and growth of the sport over time, while inspiring future generations.
Echoing sentiments expressed by other former players, such as Abdul Mannan and Penaia Latianara, Ram’s commitment to football emphasizes the importance of mentorship and community pride, which continues to shape the landscape of the sport in Fiji.
