Sunita Devi, 56, and her husband Ram Sagar, also 56, traveled from Nasau, Nadi, and couldn’t contain their tears of joy as their daughter walked up to accept her award.
Priyashna, a student majoring in Economics and Accounting at Fiji National University’s Namaka Campus, attributes her success to discipline and determination. Reflecting on her upbringing, she noted, “I grew up in a family where financial constraints were a significant challenge.” Despite the obstacles, including her father juggling casual jobs to provide for their education, she remained focused on her studies.
As the youngest sibling, Priyashna expressed pride in making her parents proud. Her academic accolades include winning the Dux award in Year 10 and finishing second in her final year at Mulomulo Secondary School. With the help of the National Toppers Scholarship, she achieved her educational goals.
Priyashna’s elder brother played a vital role in her journey, encouraging her to prioritize her education over part-time work. Reflecting on the moment, her mother, Sunita, expressed her deep pride and gratitude for the support they received, such as bus fare assistance and access to scholarships.
