Families from Koro in Levuka, Lomaiviti, celebrated the arrival of the MV Captain Inoke, a new vessel from Goundar Shipping Limited, with enthusiasm and joy. This event held special significance for the Ratotodro family, as the ship was named in memory of their late father, Captain Inoke Ratotodro, who passed away last October.
Melaia Ratotodro, the oldest daughter of the late captain, expressed her heartfelt emotions as the vessel docked at Port Mua-i-Walu, reflecting on her father’s legacy. She stated, “Our dad, who was one of the longest-serving staff of Goundar Shipping Limited, dedicated 30 years of his life to the company. We may miss him dearly, but we are grateful for what the company has done.”
George Goundar, managing director of Goundar Shipping, shared his deep appreciation for Captain Ratotodro, addressing him as a close friend who significantly contributed to the company’s foundation. Goundar recalled how Ratotodro helped pave the way for the establishment of the company in 2011, providing invaluable advice about maritime safety and operations.
The MV Captain Inoke is now under the command of Sainimere Qutonilaba, who has been with Goundar Shipping since 2011. Her journey from cadet to captain showcases the company’s commitment to fostering talent and leadership.
A traditional ceremony marked this momentous occasion before guests were invited aboard the vessel for a tour, which symbolizes both remembrance and continuity in the shipping tradition of Fiji.
