Epeli Balawa, a 50-year-old single father from Korovuli Village, was filled with emotion as his daughter, Repeka Koroi, was announced as the Year Eight dux award recipient at Vudibasoga Catholic School in Seaqaqa, Macuata. As the second oldest of four siblings, Repeka has been staying in the school’s hostel, where she manages to balance her studies and her family responsibilities. She scored 425 out of 500 on her annual examinations, and despite the challenges they face since their mother’s departure four years ago, she continues to strive for her dream of becoming a primary school teacher.
