Repeka, a talented 14-year-old, has already made her mark by winning gold in both the Under-14 girls 800 meters and 1500 meters at the recent Fiji Primary Schools Tucker Ice Cream Games held at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Achieving a score of 425 out of 500 in her annual examination, she expressed her aspiration to become a primary school teacher. The second of four siblings, she shares a close bond with her siblings, aged six, ten, and fifteen, and has been staying at the school’s hostel while managing to return home every weekend to spend quality time with their father.
Reflecting on their family situation since her mother left four years ago, Mr. Balawa shared the challenges of raising four children on his own. He expressed pride in Repeka’s success, as she followed in his footsteps; he was also a Year Eight dux, having achieved this honor in 1989 at Bulavou District School.
