Vasiti Soko, Director of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), known for her prominent presence during natural disaster reporting in Fiji, is embarking on a new journey in the United States. Fijians are familiar with her role in disseminating crucial information regarding safety measures and evacuation procedures.
On Thursday evening, Soko was honored at a farewell event hosted by the Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, alongside Assistant Minister Jovesa Vocea. Minister Ditoka praised her, stating, “Her contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary. Under her leadership, the NDMO has become a model of excellence, recognized for its proactive strategies and innovative approaches to disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response.”
Soko has served as the NDMO director for five years, making history as the first female to hold this position. Her efforts have significantly strengthened Fiji’s disaster management framework, helping communities better prepare for the escalating challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters.
