Waisake Ravuiwasa experienced a remarkable moment as he made his debut for the Shop N Save Police rugby team during the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl tournament. The fullback’s first appearance was made even more memorable as he shared the field with his older brother, Inoke Ravuiwasa, a tight head prop, leading their team to a narrow 20-19 victory against Army at HFC Bank Stadium last Saturday.

The Ravuiwasa brothers, who hail from Tavuki, Taveuni, have strong familial ties to Susui, Vanuabalavu in Lau. This significant win was dedicated to their late father, Julian Ravuiwasa, who served as a police officer in Taveuni until his passing in June. He had always encouraged his sons to persist in their aspirations.

“I thank God that we’re able to play together; I’ve been trying for a very long time,” Waisake expressed, reflecting on the emotional significance of the match. “My late dad always told me not to give up on it. I only wish he was here to see us.”

Inoke, who has been part of the team for the past nine years, shared this cherished moment with his brother, highlighting the strong bond they share both on and off the field.

This story not only showcases the talent and determination of the Ravuiwasa brothers but also serves as a tribute to family ties and the enduring spirit of those who support us from beyond. Their achievement signifies hope and the fulfillment of dreams, emphasizing that love and encouragement from family last a lifetime.

By uniting in this match, they not only honored their father’s memory but also demonstrated the profound emotional connections that sports can foster within families.
