This Christmas promises to be a memorable occasion for Kelevi Cavuduadua from Natubuniqio, Vugalei, as his eldest son, Peniasi Kaloukocei Apisai, returns home after two years in Australia. He brings with him a remarkable gift – a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the prestigious Australian National University (ANU). This milestone makes him the first individual from his village to achieve such an academic credential, a source of immense pride for his father.

Kelevi expressed his joy, stating that the education of the younger generation is yielding fruitful results. He acknowledged the foundational values instilled by the village’s elders regarding the importance of education and religious upbringing.

Peniasi, now 29, made a heartfelt gesture by surprising his father with a ticket for him to attend his graduation ceremony in Australia. Reflecting on his journey, Peniasi shared how the loss of their mother at a young age motivated him to embody the enduring spirit of hard work and determination that she imparted to her children.

He and his wife, Tenga Paueli, relocated to Australia at the beginning of 2023 for their studies, and the graduation ceremony was a momentous occasion celebrated by his father and youngest sister, Viinga Apisai, who traveled from Fiji to join in the celebration.

In his acknowledgments, Peniasi expressed gratitude to God for the strength received throughout his academic journey and extended thanks to Australia, ANU, and his family for their unwavering support. A family celebration is set to take place at their estate in Nakoromakawa, Natubuniqio Village, which will be a fitting tribute to this achievement.

This story highlights not just the importance of education, but also the remarkable support that families and communities can provide in fostering educational ambitions. It serves as an inspiring testament to the transformative power of education, particularly in celebrating achievements that resonate across communities and inspire future generations.
