It was a memorable day for 10-year-old Arjun Kumar from Labasa, as he celebrated his birthday alongside a significant family achievement—watching his father receive a prestigious medal of honor. Arjun, accompanied by his mother, Sanjeeta Sharma, who works at the High Court Registry in Suva, attended the ceremony held at the Suva Civic Centre.

During this event, a total of 206 police officers were awarded the Fiji Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medals (FPLSM), while 89 officers received the Fiji Police Medals (FPM). Among them was Inspector Avinesh Kumar, Arjun’s father, who expressed his immense pride in being recognized for his service. “I’m very proud of my achievement and my family being here to witness my success,” he stated. This honor marks the third medal Inspector Kumar has earned since returning from his United Nations mission in South Sudan.

As his birthday falls on December 20, Arjun’s joyous occasion was further enriched by the presence of his father, who has dedicated 19 years to the Fiji Police Force. Inspector Kumar expressed gratitude for the acknowledgment of their commitment to maintaining safety in Fiji.

Arjun is scheduled to return to Labasa on Saturday to get ready for the new school year. During the ceremony, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, praised the hard work of police officers in ensuring the safety of the nation, emphasizing the need for integrity and dedication in their roles. He also acknowledged the unfortunate situations of some officers who have not adhered to these principles but reiterated the importance of striving for excellence for their families and the community.

This heartwarming story not only highlights familial pride and accomplishments but also serves as an inspiring reminder of the sacrifices made by those in service roles dedicated to public safety. Arjun’s special day intertwined with his father’s achievements illustrates the profound impact of community service on family bonds and the celebration of shared milestones.

In summary, this event reflects not just personal achievements but also the collective efforts to uphold law and order in Fiji, offering a hopeful message of perseverance and dedication in service to others.
