This year has been especially memorable for Isimeli Tavo Labalaba, who celebrated his 42nd birthday yesterday. The highlight of the day was witnessing his daughter, Francis Grace Siganisucu Labalaba, 21, graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce in Banking and Management from Fiji National University at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Mr. Labalaba described the occasion as “the best gift ever.” In a heartwarming turn of events, his wife, Iliseva, 45, is set to graduate today with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Leadership and Management.

This dual milestone achievement for the Labalaba family marks a significant moment in their lives, as expressed by Ms. Labalaba. “We’ve always prayed and worked hard to see this day, and it is finally here,” she said, filled with pride. “I’m incredibly proud of my daughter because she remained focused despite the challenges she faced, and I’m honored to graduate alongside her.”

Francis attributed her success largely to her family’s unwavering support. “I can’t express how proud I am to be graduating with my mother,” she shared, thankful for the guidance she received along her academic journey. She explained that her mother’s job transfer to Aspen Medical Lautoka Hospital necessitated her move, which made daily commutes easier.

“I used to travel daily to the Nasinu Campus from Navua, but because mum was transferred, I had to move with her to Lautoka,” she said. Currently, she works at the Fiji Airports’ Finance Department while her mother serves as a midwife at Aspen Medical.

As the Labalaba family prepares for a celebratory weekend, Iliseva emphasized that this is just the beginning of their journey toward further success. “Success knows no age, so keep at it and study as much as you want,” she encouraged.

Overall, the Labalaba family’s achievements shine a light on the importance of familial support and resilience, providing inspiration to others pursuing their educational and professional goals. This story resonates with anyone who believes in the power of hard work and unity, suggesting that achievements and milestones can come at any stage of life, giving a positive spin to the notion of lifelong learning and growth.
