Ten-year-old Arjun Kumar from Labasa had a memorable birthday celebration that was made even more special as he attended the award ceremony where his father, Inspector Avinesh Kumar, received a prestigious medal of honor. This heartwarming event took place at the Suva Civic Centre, where Arjun was joined by his mother, Sanjeeta Sharma, who works at the High Court Registry in Suva.
During the ceremony, a total of 206 police officers were awarded the Fiji Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medals, while 89 received the Fiji Police Medals. Arjun expressed immense pride in his father’s achievement, especially since December 20 was a significant day for him as it coincided with his birthday. Importantly, Inspector Kumar returned from a United Nations mission in South Sudan just three months prior, making this recognition particularly meaningful.
“I’m very proud of my achievement and my family being here to witness my achievement,” Inspector Kumar shared, reflecting on his 19 years with the Fiji Police Force. He expressed gratitude for the recognition of their hard work in keeping the country safe.
As the ceremony concluded, Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, commended all officers for their dedication and emphasized the importance of integrity in their roles. He acknowledged the challenges faced by law enforcement and encouraged officers to see every opportunity as a chance to improve.
