Punjas Group marked its 90th anniversary by partnering with the Ministry of Forestry to plant 9,000 mangrove seedlings along Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi. This environmental initiative showcases the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and protecting Fiji’s coastal ecosystems for the benefit of future generations.

Rajesh Punja, the Managing Director of Punjas Group, expressed the significance of the activity, stating, “As we mark 90 years, we wanted to do something meaningful that gives back to the land and people who have been part of our journey. Mangroves protect our shores and support life. It’s a small step, but one that carries a lot of heart.” Moreover, Punja underscored the overarching importance of sustainable practices in business, highlighting how planting these mangroves symbolizes gratitude towards Fiji and signifies their commitment to future generations.

Mayur Palwankar, the Assistant Advertising Manager at Punjas, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the ecological value of mangroves and their crucial role in sustaining the environment for the coming years. The successful planting event involved Punjas employees with technical guidance from the Ministry of Forestry, which coordinated the initiative.

This event resonates with previous environmental efforts in Fiji, showcasing a growing trend among businesses to engage in meaningful acts of corporate social responsibility. For instance, similar initiatives by companies such as the Motibhai Group and the Fiji Marriott Resort reflect a collective awareness of the need for sustainable practices to protect coastal environments. These developments in environmental stewardship present a hopeful narrative for Fiji as communities and businesses unite for ecological preservation.

Through initiatives like this mangrove planting, there is a strengthened awareness and proactive approach to fostering sustainable practices that can benefit both the environment and local communities for generations to come.
