The JP Bayly Trust, founded by the late John Percy Bayly in 1954, marked its 70th anniversary with a celebration at the Civic Centre in Labasa. The Trust was established to provide assistance to underprivileged individuals through welfare rations, education, and healthcare. Currently, the Bayly Welfare Suva attends to the needs of 1,300 families by providing monthly rations and supports 360 students each year in their educational endeavors. Additionally, the Suva clinic houses three doctors and a dentist, along with nine support staff, ensuring that medical care is accessible to disadvantaged families.
During the anniversary event, Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, commended the Trust’s longstanding commitment to aiding vulnerable families and praised its collaborative efforts, including a recent partnership with Project Heaven. This initiative will facilitate free eye and ear screenings for children from at-risk backgrounds, underscoring the Trust’s dedication to enhancing both health and education for future generations.
Kiran noted that the anniversary not only reflects the Trust’s historical achievements but also sets an optimistic trajectory for future endeavors aimed at improving children’s welfare in Fiji. As the Trust looks ahead, the focus remains on building upon its impactful legacy to ensure continued support for those in need.
The future seems hopeful as the JP Bayly Trust reinforces its mission to uplift communities and ensure that the vulnerable receive the necessary resources for a better life.
